LIAJA is affiliated to the following organizations:

ACURIL

The Association of Caribbean University, Research and Institutional Libraries was founded in 1969. The Association stages the major regional conference for libraries in the English, Spanish, French and Dutch-speaking countries washed by the Caribbean Sea.

A LIAJA member has filled the presidential position on four occasions and in 2008, the Association will host (for the fourth time) the annual ACURIL conference.

COMLA
COMLA seeks to support, develop and promote library associations, and the interests of their members throughout the Commonwealth. Founded in 1972, its secretariat was established in Jamaica in 1973. and the Library and Information Association of Jamaica has been a strong supporter of COMLA. The main activities include arranging educational conferences for librarians in different regions of the Commonwealth, publishing the COMLA Newsletter and giving support and encouragement to Library Associations in the Commonwealth, particularly in small countries.

IASL

The International Association of School Librarianship was inaugurated in Jamaica in 1971. The post of president was filled by Jamaica between 1977 to 1983 and Jamaica has hosted the IASL conferences in 1985 and 1996. Activities include responsibility for the UNESCO Cooperative Action Programme for Books for School Libraries in developing countries, publishing the IASL Newsletter, undertaking research at the international level on school library developments, and offering consultancy services.

The International Federation of Library Associations was founded in 1927. IFLA (The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions) is the leading international body representing the interests of library and information services and their users. It is the global voice of the library and information profession. The LIAJA's representatives have for many years participated in the work of various sections, round tables and regional interest groups. In 1999, the Executive Committee of IFLA's Round Table on Management of Library Associations met in Montego Bay.
